| Child driver causes fatal car accident. |

On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, an eleven year old boy was driving his mother’s car at her request. While driving, he ran a stop sign and was broadsided by another vehicle, killing him, his mother and his younger sister. This car accident took place at a rural intersection outside Porterville, which is about 70 miles southeast of Fresno. This 6th grader was driving home from his soccer game when he failed to obey the stop sign. The mother, Maria Covarrubias, 30, and sister, Elizabeth Silva Covarrubias, 6, both were ejected from the back seat where it is believed neither were wearing seatbelts. A family friend, Froylon Gonzalez who was wearing his seatbelt in the passenger seat of this car involved in the
auto accident, was also in the vehicle and stated he had never seen Jose drive. He was sent to a local Fresno hospital with life- threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, Charles Seguin, 44, of Porterville, sustained minor injuries.
California Highway Patrol Officer Stefanie Buck said investigators have not yet been able to interview the car's lone survivor to determine why Jose Manuel Silva Covarrubias was driving his mother’s car. Officials stated it did not appear that drugs, alcohol or winter fog was a significant factor in this accident. The superintendent of Woodville Union School District, Dondreia Bradley, stated she was "stunned" to hear that Jose had been driving his mother’s car. The car accident is still under investigation.

| Many People Involved in Car Accidents Receive Speeding Tickets |
| Posted By Los Angeles Accident Lawyer |
 |
In the United States more then 41,000,000 speeding tickets are given out per year. Thats over 100,000 speeding tickets a day, which means that one in every six drivers will get a speeding ticket this year. Each year over six billion dollars is collected by the government for speeding tickets. About 95% of the people who receive a speeding ticket never contest it and just pay the fine. The other 5% make an effort to fight their ticket. They usually have the case dismissed or receive charges that don't get reported on their driving record.
In 2000 a statistic showed that on average, a pedestrian is killed in a car accident every 111 minutes. Research by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found that when speed limits were raised in 1996, travel speeds increased and car fatalities went up significantly on Interstate highways.
There are over 196,000,000 licensed drivers throughout the United States. Most speeding tickets are given to drivers between the ages of 17 and 24. Men receive more speeding tickets than women and are less likely to try and fight their speeding ticket. Doctors seem to receive the most speeding tickets out of any other profession.
Speeding tickets, combined with other traffic violations such as DUI/DWI, reckless driving, red light offenses, hit and run and other misdemeanors, cause a lot of fatal auto accidents. If you have been involved in a car accident, please contact our Los Angeles car accident attorney today for a free consultation. You may also provide the facts of your auto accident in our free case evaluation form. Please call us today at 800-715-4489 if you have any immediate questions. |
